Other Tips provided by the Linn Fire Protection District:
- Never play with matches.
- Always have a secondary way out of your house. Once you get out,
STAY OUT.
- Firefighters have special clothing and
air tanks that allow
them to go into a burning building to do a search and rescue as well
as extinguish the fire.
- Have a place to meet in case of an emergency. Example: At the
beginning of the driveway or at a mailbox.
- Be sure there is at least one smoke alarm on each floor of your
home. Most appropriately, close to your bedroom.
- If your smoke alarm goes off at night, be sure to roll out of
bed instead of sitting up.
- If you are unable to exit the building, make your way to a room
and close the door. If possible, wet some towels and place
them along the bottom of the door. Also, stay low to the floor
because, naturally, heat rises.
